Master Yourself
Time.
That’s your biggest, most important, most valuable asset.
Imagine not valuing it? Sounds crazy.
Yet most people don’t.
An easy way to know this? Watch for free water ice day at Rita’s or free cone day at Dairy Queen.
People will wait in a 2 hour line to get a dollar treat.
They value their time at 50 cents an hour. Wow.
If (big if) you live to be 80 you get 29,200 days.
But what are your prime years really? 20–60? 40 years.
Or 14,600 days. Or roughly 350,000 hours.
Of which you’ll only be awake for about 230,000 of them.
A great goal to have is one where you make money while you’re spending time doing what you want. Or the opposite of your job (in most cases).
How? Passive income.
Easiest way is to buy an asset created by someone else. A dividend stock, a website, affiliate marketing.
Or you can create your own. Rental property, digital products, etc.
Either way, show some respect for your time. You don’t get that much of it.
Master Your Money
“Planning is important, but the most important part of every plan is to plan on the plan not going according to plan.” - Morgan Housel
I live by a phrase called Flexible Frameworks. I have many plans, routines, habits, etc. all of which are flexible so I can adapt as needed.
Because here’s the thing…Black swan events happen. Long term plans fall apart. Things that can go wrong, do.
Certain things are universal laws though. 80/20 rule comes to mind.
Another thing I focus on…High ROI habits. You won’t regret doing things which fill the buckets of health, relationships and wealth.
Weekly Special
Every year you see everybody make new resolutions that they’ll give up on by February. Maybe March if they’re lucky.
It’s now April. Your resolutions are dead, aren’t they?
To add insult to injury, a lot of times we set stupid resolutions for ourselves. “I want to get fit. I want to get rich. I want to get smarter.”
None of those are really actionable, as is.
You’re much better off setting yourself up with a few simple, actionable resolutions that you can make use of.
I’ll give you 11 here. To be used any time of year. So, start now.
None of these are hard to implement, and they will all make your life better. Win-win.
Quit setting goals you won’t accomplish and try focusing on one or two core areas of your life. Ex. mine for 2023 are health and relationships.
Read (at least) 1 non-fiction book every 2 weeks.
1 complaint, 2 solutions. You can have a complaint, but then you need 2 solutions. More doing, less yapping.
Up your gratitude game. Start your morning and end your night with it.
30 day vice challenge. Quit drinking or eating sweets or watching porn for a month. If you can’t, you have a real problem.
Delete 1 app or streaming service from your rotation.
Eliminate a monthly expense and invest it. Whether it’s Dunkin Donuts or Netflix. Take your extra 10, 20, 30 bucks and invest it.
Stop living for the weekends. Find things to love every day. A good cup of tea, a nice view, your pet. The list is endless.
Try putting your phone away one day a week. Have dinner as a family, talk with your partner, ignore the rest of the world.
Be more accepting. You can hear an opposing opinion without engaging. Even better, try to see where they’re coming from. We don’t do this enough anymore.
Kill boredom. I haven’t been bored in years. There’s too much to learn or enjoy. Take a walk, make a call, read a book, watch a great show.
Thanks for reading! If you found this valuable, please share with someone who could use it. See you next Saturday!
