Master Yourself
From Atomic Habits author, James Clear:
“Always be prepared to absorb a big hit.
Always be focused enough to create a big win.
Diversified enough to survive, concentrated enough to matter.”
This is very solid advice across every area of your life.
Life will inevitably grace you with the most amazing opportunities (provided you’re ready for them) and land the most vicious gut punches (which you can withstand).
Here are a few examples.
Money
Focusing on stacking money allows you to create big wins, like when the market drops and you can afford to buy the dip.
An emergency fund prepares you to absorb a roundhouse from life.
Mental health
Building mental and emotional resilience when times are good, will allow you to absorb life’s punches to the gut.
It also helps you enjoy the present moments that much more.
Career
Building skills while you’re employed so if you lose your job you’re still highly desirable and can capitalize on a hot employment market.
It also improves your work at your current job.
Master Your Money
Making money isn’t easy…but it is easier than you think it is.
Let’s say you play guitar very well.
You can sell 1 on 1 lessons (or, even better, group lessons), make YouTube videos, create a course online and write articles about music (history, how to’s, types of guitars, etc.).
That’s 4 options to work with based on 1 skill.
So here’s how to get creative quickly.
Think of your skills, all of them
Jot them down on actual paper
Write out at least 3 ideas for each skill
Nothing is off limits on this piece of paper. No idea is too silly or unworthy.
Now take a handful of your ideas and act on them.
It may take time, but do it consistently and you WILL find success.
Weekly Special
The overarching theme of this book is that your mindset drives your reality. Once you really internalize this message, life starts making a lot more sense.
Let’s be frank- most people are lazy and look for excuses to confirm their lazy choices.
It’s time to be different.
Principle 1- Desire
What’s the starting point of achievement? Desire. Keep this in mind. Weak desire brings weak results. A burning desire can cause an inferno.
How bad do you want it? Why do you want money? Money for money’s sake isn’t it. You need a plan for it.
Principle 2- Faith and self suggestion
Napoleon Hill’s definition of faith: “an eternal elixir which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought.”
Self-talk has to move from the negative and the scarce to the positive and the powerful. ‘I make money easily.’
Principle 3- Imagination
The process of wealth creation starts with an idea, a vision. You need your imagination to picture the life you want.
This comes back to having a plan for your money.
Principle 4- Planning and decision-making
All the dreams in the world won’t matter without a well-made plan. I just discussed with my girlfriend the difference between lazy goals and actionable goals.
Lazy goal: I want more sales commission.
Actionable goal: I will contact 3 new prospects each week and 1 former client.
Create good systems that support your plans and goals.
Principle 5- Persistence
Some days you’re the bird, some days you’re getting shit on.
Mentally prepare yourself for the roller coaster and understand that a bad morning doesn’t make a bad day. A bad day doesn’t make a bad week. A rough month doesn’t make a year.
You keep following your plan.
My mantra? F*ck your feelings, follow your plan.
Principle 6- Transmutation
You need your vibration to match what you want to receive. The universe will gift you if you find the right frequency.
A victim will always find themselves at the mercy of others. A winner will find opportunity everywhere.
Principle 7- Sixth sense
When you pull all the principles together, you find yourself almost being guided by the universe.
Your sixth sense feels like the universe has become your mentor. It’s hard to describe, but when you get here- you’ll know.
