Master Yourself
People usually assume that asking “what if?” is a waste of time.
And they’re right.
When they think of it the common way. Looking back wondering what would have been better if you did something else is mostly a waste of time. Though arguably it is also a learning tool but that’s not the point of this piece.
This piece is about using “What If” proactively. Using it in a way to make your life better.
Some examples…
What if you stopped paying attention to the news?
Your life gets better.
What if you switched from TV to books?
You get smarter.
What if you sat with your emotions for a minute so you could respond reasonably?
You learn to be a responder instead of reactor and you make better decisions.
What if you changed shoulds into musts?
You actually get shit done.
What if you dreamed differently?
You could build a new life.
What if you did things other people thought were weird?
You have to be different to have different.
Imagine your life in a different way.
Imagine your present and your future the way you want them to be.
And then imagine what you would need to change to make it reality.
And then?
Start doing those things.
Master Your Money
I’d like help make personal finance (and everything else) easier for folks.
So here are the two sheets I use to keep track of all of my financials:
The Cash Flow sheet
The Net Worth sheet
Both are monthly but they measure different things.
Both are on Google Sheets, which is free.
Cash Flow Sheet
The simple version? All incoming money, all outgoing money, how much we invest.
You can create calculations in the sheet just like Excel. Ex. =sum(B24:I24)
This way as I enter salaries, rent, investments, etc. the totals section is populated.
Net Worth Sheet
This is the simple addition of all of our assets minus any debts.
Again, use the formulas to do auto-calculations. This way you just plug your numbers and the sheet adds it up for you.
I also add our savings (emergency fund) to this sheet.
I keep track of our credit scores as well.
Weekly Special
A Quick Story About How to Sell Like a Human
My girlfriend is a commercial insurance sales rep.
She also happens to be a wonderful, honest person who genuinely cares about other people.
One day a contractor (and potential client) popped into her office looking for a specific kind of insurance that would’ve netted her a nice commission.
She told him honestly he’d get a better price from the agency down the street.
So, he left.
He went to lunch then came back and said “I want to work with you, I trust you. Can we get this done today?”
That’s the power of treating people like people during the sales process.
You don’t need to “always be closing”.
You can be a person who likes people and tries to help them.
And you can make a lot of money doing it.

Not sure if I misread or is there supposed to be a link to the Google sheets? I can’t seem to find them if there is.
