Five to Focus on:
In a noisy world, it’s hard to know what’s good out there. Let me help.
Quote to ponder: “Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.” - Napoleon Hill
Stock to consider: CCL (Carnival Cruise Line)
A cruise stock that’s waaay down? Yes. Cruising is picking back up and once we’re on the other side of this recession (and we will be) I think we’ll see cruising surge again. This stock used to rest in the mid-60s. Right now it’s around 10 bucks. And while not currently active, they typically pay a decent dividend.
Disclaimer- this is not financial advice, I am not a financial advisor, and you should always do your own research.
Book to read: Utopia for Realists by Rutger Bregman
We should all be thinking of ways to live a better future. But even more pressingly, how to make our current situation better. Nothing like good non-fiction to inspire the mind to new heights.
Show to enjoy: Hustle on Netflix
Not a show, a movie, but a good one! Yes, it’s Adam Sandler but no, it’s not an Adam Sandler movie. Unless you’re thinking more Uncut Gems than Billy Madison. It’s a basketball movie, but also so much more.
Beer to sip: Cloudy with a Chance of Charcuterie from Free Will
When you hear the words “milk sugar” and “spicy pine” in the same beer profile, you have to try it. Slightly sweet, slightly piney = fully delicious.
Master Yourself
People are insecure in relationships, and life, because we lack acceptance. Particularly acceptance when it comes to truths.
We don’t accept others for who they really are and we don’t accept ourselves for who we really are.
We ignore truths. We twist truths to fit our agendas. We disregard the value of living in truths.
Here’s where you can begin to make progress toward a better future and how to accept truths easier:
Radical honesty with yourself (most important) and others (pretty important).
View the truth as something that just is what it is, instead of good or bad.
You can build up from honesty, but you can only dig deeper with deceit.
Master Your Money
Surprise!
“Things that have never happened before happen all the time.” — Scott Sagan
Yet, we use history as our roadmap for the future. Because, history repeats itself, right?
Well, yes and no.
No one predicted most of the major events that have occurred. We could argue we know major events are coming. But we have no certainty of when, where, how, why, what, who.
This is why it’s typically the best move to simply dollar cost average and buy regularly.
Weekly Special:
How to Write (and post) 7 Days a Week
When I first started writing seriously, I wrote 3 articles per week. Then I quickly bumped it to 4, which felt sufficient at first. But I wasn’t as delirious with happiness as I knew I could be.
I enjoy writing. You probably do too. You’d do it for free. Maybe you do do it for free right now.
When I decided to write 7 days a week, I thought it might be kind of a crazy idea but I got real excited. And that’s a sign, right?
Follow your excitement.
I mean, it seemed kind of daunting that whole write 7 days a week. Because I have 2 young kids, a full time job, full time school, a couple of committees I volunteer on and then this gig. But, one weekend I had a Sunday almost entirely to myself. The kids were at grandma's, the girlfriend was sick and wanted to stay in bed and the cats were doing cat things (ignoring my presence).
So I wrote out an entire week’s worth of articles. That was step one. Take a weekend to write out an entire week’s worth of articles. This sets you up to keep up with your new habit.
This put me a week ahead, so I figured I could keep on top of it easier from there. So now I follow a pretty simple routine.
On Sunday nights I map out not the coming week (that’s already scheduled to publish, because of step one) but the next week. What will I write about on Monday, Tuesday, etc.? Figure out the title, perhaps jot some notes down and then go to bed early.
So then when I wake up on Monday and as my already written article posts, I write next Monday’s article. Same deal on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, etc.
I get it, it’s a big ask of yourself. Coming up with 7 ideas each week then writing them out. It’s taxing to the schedule. Trying to fit it in can feel impossible.
And we like quality around here, so you can’t just post nonsense. If you’re not ready to add value, then don’t post 7 days a week. If you write one really good article per week, it beats posting 7 “eh” articles every time.
But, if you’re ready to take the 7 day plunge, this routine may help you too!
To recap:
Take a day or two to write out an entire week’s worth of articles.
Take one evening per week to map and outline out the next week’s articles.
On Mondays write next Monday’s article. Repeat on Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.
Thanks for reading and if you found this valuable, please share with someone who could use it. See you next Saturday!
